Moddex meets International Standards in Papua New Guinea

With Papua New Guinea due to host the auspicious Pacific Games in July 2015, the host country required a world-class stadium to meet international standards.

The Sir John Guise Outdoor Stadium required a series of upgrades, including redevelopment of the 900 seat grandstand into a 15,000 seat purpose-built athletics complex. With tight deadlines and the stadium under re-construction, limited on-site measurements were available for our brief.

Why Moddex?
Our modular handrail systems were flexible, quick to install and arrived on-site in flat pack form, enabling stadium re-construction to continue uninterrupted.

New castings were designed and engineered specifically for this project to meet the high load ratings of 3kN/m required by international standards for sports stadiums as set out in the Green Guide to Safety at Sports Stadiums.

With the constant high humidity that Papua New Guinea experiences, our hot dipped galvanized systems were essential in the prevention of on-going maintenance issues. The modular flexibility of our systems enabled a quick and efficient install where due to time constraints very limited on-site measurements could be acquired.

The stadium was old and the contractor often diverged from design drawings to meet the brief. A fabricated alternative would have led to extensive, costly and time consuming changes onsite. With limited resources for galvanizing and fabrication in Papua New Guinea, the only option was for Fletchers Morobe Construction Ltd to source a product with the flexibility to meet this project’s unique demands.
