Moddex selected to supply corrosion-free bikeway barriers to Sunshine Motorway Cycle Way Project

In 2012, Moddex was selected to supply its modular galvanised bileway barriers (Bikesafe) to Queensland’s Sunshine Motorway Cycle Way Project. Moddex bike path barriers were the only system meetng the Departments of Transport and Main Roads’ galvanised requirements.

Moddex bike path barriers were the only system meeting the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ galvanised requirements because of the high corrosion zone in which the bikeway is situated. The subtropical zone experiences regular washing from consistent rainfall. Moddex bikeway barriers have an expected life to first maintenance of 30 years due to the fact that there is no welding involved in the installation process.

Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads, through its Cycle Strategy 2011–2021, aims to double cycling’s share of commuter trips to work by 2021, and triple this by 2031.

Key to achieving this change in the way people travel and get more people cycling is through investment in cycling infrastructure and facilities in road upgrades on priority cycle routes.
A recent major project was the Sunshine Motorway – Pacific Paradise Interchange providing a 2.3km safe, shared pathway between the Maroochy River Bridge and Ocean Drive on David Low Way for commuting cyclists and pedestrians.

Moddex’s innovative Bikesafe modular systems combine strength, durability and versatility enabling the guardrails and barriers to be used in a wide variety of applications.

For the Sunshine Motorway Cycle Way Project, Moddex provided 700 metres of pre-configured galvanised barrier to create the required safety barrier for cyclists.

The bikeway barriers and guardrails are designed to meet all Austroads safety requirements for bikeways and paths. No on site welding delivers ease and speed of installation while reducing safety hazards.

“Our Bikesafe pre-engineered modular designs ensure structural integrity, unlimited configurations and cost effectiveness,” said Moddex General Manager, Dean Vos.”This is why increasingly Moddex is becoming the supplier of choice for government departments facing both tight budgets and time constraints.”
